John Leary

John Leary is a USTA Certified Tennis Coach with over three decades of experience. Since Montgomery TennisPlex opened in 2012, he has been an integral part of its coaching team, specializing in beginner player development programs and occasionally hosting a popular Doubles Masterclass.

John’s journey in tennis started in the Mid-Atlantic Region, where he trained with Hall of Fame coach Jack Schore and achieved a junior ranking as high as #7. At Georgetown Prep, he excelled as the #1 singles player throughout high school. His collegiate career at Swarthmore College from 1997 to 2000 was equally distinguished; he and his partner won the 1997 ROLEX Mid-Atlantic Doubles Championship, earned an 11th-place national ranking in the 1998 ITA Division III Men’s Intercollegiate Doubles standings, and finished 22nd nationally in 2000.

Beyond TennisPlex, John brings extensive experience from 20 years at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland, where he managed clinics, summer camps, and tournaments. His enduring passion for tennis, coupled with his rich experience and patient approach, continues to inspire players of all ages at Montgomery TennisPlex.
